Submit Prayer Request

Seventeen years ago, when the congregation of New Shiloh began worshipping in her new edifice, Pastor Carter felt led to call the congregation to daily prayer. Pastor Carter had throughout his pastorate sought to affirm the importance of prayer through such services as a Weekly Prayer Service at noon on Fridays, Monthly Prayer Breakfasts, and even a City-Wide Prayer Breakfast held at the Baltimore Hilton, where more than 1,000 persons were called to pray including city leaders, educators, business persons, and religious leaders. In fact, one of Pastor Carter's most prolific books is about prayer, entitled The Prayer Tradition of Black People.

On the strength of such a ministry that understood the power of prayer, the 6:00 A.M. Daily Prayer Service began. This means that 365 days of the year; sun, snow, or rain, New Shiloh's doors are open for members and friends to begin each day in communion with God, in His house. The daily guiding of this ministry is coordinated by a group of "prayer warriors," led by Deacon Howard Lyles, which schedules members to share meditative messages and lead spirited devotional services. Some years ago, Pastor Carter, Jr. suggested that the Pastoral Ministry would commit to using a week in each month to preach the Gospel; hence, in effect, leading a revival early in the morning. That was done and eventually led to the present implementation of our Pastoral Preaching Ministry on Friday mornings, where several hundred gather for prayer and preaching.

The Sacred Prayer Urn
Consistently, testimonies of deliverance, healing, a loved one's salvation, and blessings of all kinds are shared by members and friends who have placed their written prayer request(s) in the Sacred Prayer Urns.

The urns rest on the communion tables on the altars in our Main Sanctuary and in the Harold A. Carter Prayer Chapel. Every worship in New Shiloh begins with the Sacred Urn being lifted heavenward and an intercessory prayer offered, to affirm that "if two or three of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven." Matthew 18:19
