Fall 2008 REQUIRED CORE COURSE OFFERINGS (3 UNITS)

Introduction to the New Testament  

This course examines the major themes of the New Testament, including: The Kingdom of God, Jesus Christ, salvation, the church, gifts and the Second Coming.  The general emphasis is to equip the student with a general knowledge of the New Testament that will be applicable for daily ministry.

History of Christianity-Part II                                
This foundational course explores the history and growth of the Christian Church from the Reformation to the present..

Educational Ministry of The Church 

This course will examine the teaching ministry of the church with particular attention given to its impact in everyday life. Students will be provided with the tools for practical application of the Word of God. This course will explore models for a variety of situations and current trends in Christian Education.

Effective Grammar & Writing

This course is designed to review the basics of the English language and provide students with the necessary skills to write a good research paper. Students may take a proficiency exam to fulfill the requirement.

Christian Ethics                   

This course will examine the place of the church and Christian responsibility in relation to social, economic, moral and political issues.  Biblical material and theological reflection will be used to enable students to respond to the world around them.

Great Hymns of the Church
This course Great Hymns of the Church, seeks to recapture the fervor and passion for the music that, over the ages has facilitated the singing out of our theology, the grateful celebration of our salvation and more importantly, the worship of the Ancient of Days.

Advanced Preaching

This course will further explore the disciplines examined in Homiletics: Contemporary Preaching.  It will take an in-depth look at the process of proclaiming God's Word.  Students will utilize biblical exegesis and hermeneutics.

Prerequisite:   Contemporary Preaching, Sermon Construction, permission of instructor

Practical Theology

What does theology have to do with real life?  How do faithful people live out their faith in culture.  Students in this course will explore the connection between Christian doctrine and Christian practices.

Sermon Construction

This course teaches the student how to prepare a sermon outline, how to use Biblical and theological research tools, writing different types of sermons and writing for the ear.

Introduction to Christian Counseling

This course will provide students with a framework of principles for integrating counseling and Christian faith.  Students will explore the different issues involved in integrating theology and psychology.  They will be given a change to turn theory into practical application.
